I wasn't feeling too well this morning... Don't you just love head colds?? But I went and exercised anyway. I did 2.32 miles on the treadmil doing the Army PT test mode for 25.46 min. My score was 202. Not too bad for only running for a week. Each minute I up the speed .1 mph and at the end I got up to 5.5 and I started at 4.0.

Next I did 3.61 miles I did some walking and then at 19 min I started jogging at 4.5 for the rest of the 36 minutes. So....I feel pretty good. A little light headed, but some food and water will help with that.

Today I didn't get any running cause my cold kicked in this morning. :( Anyone have any tips on how to get running in when you dont have a treadmil at home and when the hubbys out of town and no ones there to watch the kids?? lol

So, I'm a slacker....I didnt exercise much last week...but I got up at 6 am and went to the gym this morning. I did 2.54 in 37 min...thats what sucks about slacking....you lose the progress that you had.

OK...so I went to the gym and did 3.01 miles in 44.32 min. I was planning on going longer, but I started to feel blisters forming on my toes. Either I'm wearing the wrong kind of socks or my shoes aren't good anymore. But hey! I did it. I went and ran. :)

Running outside in the winter isn't so bad...I've done it for years now. I've gotten to where as soon as I step outside in the winter I wish I was running....to warm up!!

So...I went and ran outside with my new ipod+nike stuff. It was pretty cool. It feels good to run outside. I really like it. I cant wait for it to get a little warmer...but I am enjoying running in the cold. I did 3.61 in 43.59. A 12:10 per mile pace.

Don't you just love the nike+ thing? I was always a treadmill runner before I got it and now you can't convince me to go back inside.

I started off around your pace in October, and now am sub-10 most days. Keep at it and your short-term goal will be in reach!

I ran 3.77 miles around the lake in 45.43. Pretty nice day. I'm glad the snow is melting cause then I wont have  to run through slush, mud,ice, and snow!  My pace was 12:06 min mile....a little faster than yesterday. :)

Everything was against me sleeping in this morning. My hubbys phone went off at 6AM then around 630 I woke myself up cause I remembered that I had to take the trash out for the trash guys. So, when I went out the air was so nice and crisp that I couldn't help but go run. So, that's what I did. My ipod died right when I stopped (that worked out perfectly) so, I dont have my exact time,but it felt like I did it a little faster. My shins, calves, my butt, and thighs are killing me. I really need to get a new pair of shoes.

*edited* I found my charger! yay! I ran 3.61 in 40.40. I've shaved 3 min off my time! :) My pace today was 11.15. I knew I felt like I did it a little faster. :) I ran the trails around Daybreak. There were some icy spots, but nothing too bad. The snow's melting which is great cause now I dont have to run through big snow spots. I saw a couple runners out there today. Oooh, I'm getting new shoes today too! YAY!

So, I ran today with some shoes my mom gave me....they are a little too big and my calves and shins are hurting a LOT more now. :( Hopefully my new shoes that are coming will help with my aching legs. Anyway...Since I used these new shoes the Nike+ was inaccurate. I ran the same trail as yesterday and it said I only went 3.16...which cant be right. So....anyway....I ran it in 38.31 and my pace was 10.40. Not bad. I'm getting better and the weather's getting nicer! :)

 

Anyone have any tips on stretching???

You're making me feel like such a bum anymore. Sounds like you've been doing awesome. Adam said he helped you find some good shoes, so I hope they workout for you... sometimes it makes such a huge difference. Anyway, that picture of Jason on your blog is amazing.

Not even a 1/2 a mile....and I walked most of it. My shins and calves are SOOOOOOOOOOO sore! They hurt really bad. The new shoes feel good and help a little bit, but boy do my legs hurt. I dont know when I'm gonna be able to run again. Any tips anyone??

Josse should have some advice for you...she knows about bodies...get on her blog and ask her. She may have some ideas. Also when I want to know something I often can sift through info on the internet and find something that works for me. Give it a try.

I dealt with killer shin splints for a long time. At one point I told my husband I needed to go to the hospital and get a wheel chair because both my legs were broke. (That was right after my first 5k) They hurt for about two weeks and then slowly got better. New shoes helped alot when I got going again. I notied I would get them if I ran more than one day in a row. So I did alot of cross training. At one point Shasha asked me why I cross trained so much and I told him it was because of my shins. As I have ran more they have pretty much stopped. Sarah is right Josse always has good advice. Good luck! Don't give up they will get better. I have also found that walking backwards dose not hurt as much if yuou don't have access to an eliptical or bike:)

A BIG FAT ZERO! I've given my legs rest...but nothing....I really want to get over these shin splints so I can run. I read about em online and obviously I was doing everything wrong. Sometimes I wonder if I can just run through the pain or if that will make it worse. I dont know...maybe I'll go and try the treadmil rather than running outside. I dont know. All I know is that I want to get back out there!!

Shin splints ouch I use to struggle from these. Are you having the pain on the inside or outside?

i'd say the outside. I feel it alot in my right calf and my left side where the shin and calf meet. (if that makes sense)

so that would be the tibalis antior? (google that muscle if your not sure.) In any case the best thing for them is some deep tissue massage. Ice after you run and you can do some Ice/heat alternating for 5 mins a piece to help get the blood flow to the area, this speeds up the healing process. Make sure your shoes are the right fit, you should have a thumbs width from you big toe to the end of the shoe. Where are you form?

Yeah, that's the right muscle. So, it should be ok to run still then? I'll make sure to do the heat and ice. Would something like icy hot be good for it? I usually run through shin splints (mine are on the inside though). Make sure you ice first and then the heat. Maybe you can get your hubby to massage out that thibalis antoir muscle for you. Do that a couple time a week, it should hurt and as it gets better it will hurt less and less. Just be listen to your body when you run. Don't over do it and be aware that if you let the shin splints get bad they can develop stress fractures. But they would be extreamly painful to run on if they got that bad.

OK....so i started running and I think it's not shin splints...but its tight muscles. cause after i start running it doesnt hurt so bad. but when i stop it hurts. Ooh, and when I hit 1 mile my hip felt like it was being stabbed, so I walked and then after a mile of walking i ran the rest of the way and my hip didnt hurt at all...i wonder if I landed on it wrong or something.  Oh well, but I DID IT. Working through the pain. lol

3.53 in 40.31 min. My pace was 11.25. Not too bad. My shoes felt really good. I need to learn to stretch better. And I need to not eat an hour before running. Lots of pasta right before running....not a good idea. lol. I didn't throw up though. :) I'm gonna go out again tomorrow during nap time. I'm also planning on running the Utah Valley Marathon 5K in April with my sis. I think it'll be fun to run with someone who doesn't leave me in the dust....ADAM. lol. :)

It's true, I enjoy running with Adam... but he's probably not the best race partner, expect he did stay back and help me last time, instead of really competing himself. I can't wait for you and Joy to come run... I'm sure you'll have fun. I thought about it, but I just don't know how well I could do it at this point. You know how it goes. We'll see.

2.5 in 41.21 min. So, my ipod was acting up, right....so I mess around with it today and decide to walk around the house with it to see if I got it to work or not. I started at just wanting to go for 2 minutes, then it moved to 10, then to 15, then to 30, then I thought I was doing miles and I was like "Whoa! It says I'm doing a 10 min/mile pace. That's nuts! How do I walk faster than I run!??" When I finished the work out I thought it said I had gone 4.1 miles.....LOL....Nope...I had gone 4.1K I was way off. Hahaha. but it was fun walking around everyone in the house and then I walked in circles on the patio. Hahaha...I'm sure the neighbors thought I looked funny. I'm hoping to go out for a run today, we'll see.
